The popular crypto hardware manufacturing company of Ledger has announced that it is working on launching a browser extension to allow users of its hardware wallets to connect directly to Web3 applications. Ledger’s mission with the new browser extension ‘is to become [the] easier and most secure way to experience Webs.’

Ledger Connect to Be Available on the Safari Browser

According to the official announcement by Ledger, the browser extension will be called Ledger Connect and will be available on the Safari browser. Ledger Connect will initially be compatible with the Ledger Nano X hardware wallet and Mobile Safari. Support for the Ledger Nano S Plus and Desktop will come later.

Ledger Connect to Initially Support Ethereum and Solana

Ledger Connect will also be initially compatible with Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL) before expanding to other popular networks. The browser will also automatically switch to the correct network when connecting to a particular Web3 application.

NFTs and Crypto Will Be More Secure

The browser extension will also reduce dependencies on third-party wallets.  The team at Ledger explained that Ledger Connect is also focused on preventing hacks and scams and keeping users’ crypto and NFTs safe. It will do so by implementing a new security layer called ‘Web3 Check’.

The latter will automatically warn users ‘about the risk and potential security issues linked to past scams, hacked websites, and fraudulent smart contracts.’

Ledger’s VP of Produce, Charles Hamel, elaborated that the company continues its commitment to building the most secure products. He said:

With each step, Ledger is continuing to build the most secure Web3 ecosystem. Ledger Connect is easy, smart and safe.

Easy because it connects your wallet directly to your browser, with no hackable software wallet in the middle. Smart because it only requires one extension for multiple blockchains.

And safe thanks to our new feature that warns you about potential risks before you sign on a device and that we call “Web3 check.”
